Speak like Jagger: Mastering Vocal Impact in Leadership

Leaders, at all levels, are in the spotlight! It takes a range of skills and attributes to succeed. Let’s talk about something crucial – your voice. It’s not just about talking; it’s about creating an impact. And trust me, that impact doesn’t just happen magically; you have to work at it.

I started out in the Performing Arts scene, where vocal training was a big deal. When I moved into the business world, I was quite shocked. Keynote presentations and important meetings seemed like they were missing something vital – a focus on how we actually deliver our words. Virtually no attention was given to it. It’s like trying to play a musical instrument with your hands tied behind your back. Your voice is a potent tool, and you can develop your skills to make your words not only be heard but resonate as your facts and emotional appeals hit home.

Ever thought of taking a cue from the legendary Sir Mick Jagger to give your speaking skills a boost? Yes, the Rolling Stones front man! But here’s the point: if you are a professional in the business world, to successfully perform at your best in the ‘theatre’ of leadership, you can learn a thing or two from Jagger’s vocal moves.  Just as musicians perfect their craft, leaders and aspiring leaders need to tune up their vocal instruments to sound confident, connect authentically, be compelling, and leave a positive impact.
